about

The third album from a band is always a special thing – it is not called the „make it or break it” album for nothing… In the case of BLACK MAJESTY, it should be the „make it”, though. The Australian's are among the most popular representatives of genuine, real, melodic Power Metal worldwide. Their third album is called “Tomorrowland“ and proves yet another time that you can be true to yourself musically without repeating yourself. “Tomorrowland“ brims with energetic guitar duels, increased tempo, a lot of thrust and those melody lines characteristic of BLACK MAJESTY. This positive Metal power is taken to an enormously high level by the concise vocal lines of exceptional singer John Cavaliere. The unprepared listener is swept along by the amazingly unerring new hymns like the driving `Into The Black`, solid `Faces Of War`, or the dramatic, spirited `Evil In Your Eyes`. The Australian's have a distinct feeling to connect traditionally forged steel with superb, speedy melodies – on an enormously high level. As in the past, Endel Rivers (VANISHING POINT) who has provided the album with a warm, very earthy sound, pays attention that this level is maintained soundwise, too. “Tomorrowland“ obviously shows a further matured band from down under.

Even in the new millennium, Australian bands are considered exotic, although the red continent has spawned a whole bunch of new, promising Metal bands within the last years: PEGAZUS, ANARION, BLACK STEEL, EYEFEAR, DUNGEON or the very BLACK MAJESTY represent the new Australian Metal attack worldwide. However, BLACK MAJESTY started quite unspectacular. Towards the end of the year 2001, five Metal maniacs got together to realize their vision of Metal. The musicians – partially accordingly experienced – complement one another splendidly, and BLACK MAJESTY find their style very fast.

From the start, they were geared to bands like QUEENSRYCHE, DREAM THEATER, or European acts like IRON MAIDEN, EDGUY, JUDAS PRIEST, HELLOWEEN or BLIND GUARDIAN. The line-up consists of John Cavaliere (vocals), Hanny Mohamed (guitar), Stevie Janevski (guitar) and Pavel Konvalinka (drums). Roughly a year later, an expressive EP with the title “Sands Of Time“ was recorded, which led to a track on the newcomer-CDs of two of Germany’s most important Metal magazines, Rock Hard and Heavy, oder was!? and got excellent feedback. As a result of this, the band signs with Limb Music Products (LMP) in 2003 – and still in the same year, the Australian's see the release of their overdue debut album “Sands Of Time“. From the first minute, the ten songs captivate with passion, musical top level and a concise intuition for high-class melodies. The album gets exuberant reviews and enters the Heavy Metal Import Charts even in the discerning Japanese BURRN! Magazine. In Australia, things are also working out great for the Melbourne-based band. In a poll of the Australian Metal Magazine „Full Strength“, the native fans elect BLACK MAJESTY „best, new metal band“!

This class attracted the attention of many people, and the two guitar players Stevie Janevski and Hanny Mohamed get endorsement deals with no lesser companies than Hughes & Kettner and Mesa Boogie Amplifications, Jackson Guitars and Dean Markley Strings – an incredible award for a newcomer which spurs the band on even more to perform at their best.

2005, BLACK MAJESTY present “Silent Company“, the successor of “Sands Of Time“ which shows their class even more strikingly. Matured, more self-confident and enormously versatile, they deliver an album containing melodic Power Metal almost from the book. That they know what they want is proven by the fact that neither money nor effort have been spared: Piet Sielck (IRON SAVIOR, WIZARD, SAXON,..) recorded the drums in the German K.A.R.O. Studios. Nevertheless, Endel Rivers produced and mixed the album in the Palm Studios in Melbourne. “Silent Company“ enthused as well fans as the media. With hymns like `Visionary`, `Dragon Reborn` or `Silent Company` played live, the fans are on your side anyway! During their first trip to Europe, the band performed at the well-established cult festival Headbangers Open-Air in northern Germany, and after that, they supported HAMMERFALL and EDGUY at the Czech Metal Fest.

2006 was a bit calmer: the band toured very successfully with DRAGONFORCE in their native country Australia, and then started to work on the new album. “Tomorrowland“ presents a highly motivated band that has not pushed its musical boundaries for a long time yet. The self-confidence of BLACK MAJESTY knows no limit, which is reflected, among others, in a fulminant Blackmore/Coverdale cover version of `Soldier Of Fortune`. By the way: for the backing vocals the band could win over none lesser than Silvio Massaro, singer of VANISHING POINT. 2007 should be the year of BLACK MAJESTY, because all important indicators come together: Brilliant songs, crispy sound, cover artwork by Dirk Illing (ELDRITCH, GUN BARREL, WIZARD) – plus confirmed festival dates in Europe, as the prestigious Wacken Open-Air, Masters Of Rock or the Slovak Metal Universe Festival.

about

Black Majesty Melbourne, Australia

Australia's Metal scene may be small but is nothing to be sneezed at. Far from the trends and the musical centres of the world, a very independent scene has developed which has a life of its own. Numerous Australian Metal bands have long cast off their exotic status and in many respects they are seen as role models. ... more
